We welcome Michael Hahn, who will join the RTG as a principal investigator in the area of language.
Michael directs the Language, Computation, and Cognition Lab (LaCoCo) at Saarland Informatics Campus. A major focus of his research is the foundational properties of machine learning architectures in language models, including their expressive power, learning biases, and reasoning abilities. He also develops methods for analyzing the inner workings of language models and explaining their behavior.
Michael received his PhD from Stanford University in 2022, advised by Judith Degen and Dan Jurafsky. He is affiliated with the Departments of Language Science and Technology and Computer Science, and also an ELLIS Member and an ELIZA Fellow.
